Angels Black Competes in San Diego

The Angel Black team made strides in the 4th of July tourney in San Diego this year as the core group took it’s lumps last year, but came to compete this year. The 2016 version of Angels Black earned their way to a top 5 pool play finish and a trip to the championship tournament round.  This was a total team effort from a team that is made up of all under aged players.
During pool play, solid pitching perfromances from Logan Schayes, Simon Hoffmann, Cameron Butters and DJ Guerrero helped move the Black team into the championship bracket while the pitching performance that stood out the most was Caden Griffin in game #3 – for 5 innings he shut down a very good Team Phenom in a 5-2 win for Angels Black.  He allowed no earned runs, kept them off balanced and the defense was exceptional behind him. Aiden Bevier came in the final two innings to shut ‘em down.  In pool play, the offense was led by Hunter Seisinger and Jesse Williams who came up with timely hits delivering key RBI’s. Guerrero and Hoffman also had big hits in key situations while Napolitano and Schayes swung it well also.
Defensively, the team was led by the middle tandem of Hoffman and Zach Quintana. They were rock solid all tourney while behind the plate, the Angles Black is blessed with three quality catchers – Napolitano, Jackson DeChristina and Bevier – all three were awesome behind the dish! Seisinger made some exceptional plays in right field and Williams roamed center field with the best players of this tourney.  Jack Crowley also made some very nice plays in left field throughout the entire tourney.
In the opening round of the championship bracket, the Angels Black jumped to a 3-0 lead. Hoffmann had an exception read on a pass ball with a short backstop – his head first slide away from the tag scored the first run and we scored another shortly after. In the second inning, with two outs, Hoffmann and Kannon Dush executed perfectly a 1st and 3rd early steal to snag another run. Guerrero started on the hill and was overpowering the opponents but fatigue hit and the Angels Black came up short in runs to advance to the second round. Angels Black
