Tuesday May 24 - Surprise, Arizona - Down 6-5 in the bottom of the 7th, Halos Gray third basemen Daniel Bartels (Valley Vista) delivered a 2 out double through the right center field gap ...to give the Halos Gray their first win of the season at the Surprise Recreation Campus last night.
The 7th inning began with Johnny Carnelia singling and one out later Shane Duvall (North Canyon) singled to right and Paxton Ketchum followed with a single to left. Koty Fallon then delivered a productive out by grounding out to second scoring Carnelia and moving Duvall and Ketchum over to set the stage for Bartels clutch hit.
Matt Dalke went the first three innings on the mound giving up just 1 hit while striking out 4 and Fallon throwing the last three, striking out 5 and while allowing just 2 hits. Tyler Eilenfeldt threw the fourth. The Halos Gray are back I action next Tuesday at the Surprise Recreation Campus with a doubleheader beginning at 5:45pm.
In other Angels action, the Diamondbacks 17u defeated the Angels Blue 9-2 and 7-4 in a doubleheader at Tempe Diablo. In the first game, lefthander Zach Caraballo (Chaparral) suffered the loss getting himself into trouble by walking 7 in just two innings. Ian Kraft (McClintock), Konner Fritz (Williams Field) and Zach Wood (Highland) all played well in the defeat.
In the loss Coach Krawczyk was happy with the effort and confident he will get the pitching shaped up. He noted Weston Wiederhold (Highland) looked sharp out of the bullpen and will have a great summer on the mound for the Angels Blue.
In game two, Coach Krawcayk saw his team strikeout 9 times at the plate but Wade Patrick (Gilbert) had two hits and Kevin McGuinnis (Desert Mountain), Kraft and Hunter Parker (Westwood) each played. Again walks plaqued the pitching staff with Parker only allowing 2 hits but walking 3 over three innings.
The Angels Blue will be back in action Thursday June 2nd as part of the Four Corner Pre-Draft Wood Bat Classic at the Peoria Sports Complex. Again they will meet the Diamondbacks 17u team at 8pm.
Tonight the Halos Red will open their season at Tempe Diablo in their Sandy Koufax opener at 5pm with a doubleheader against Wolves Baseball while a terrific matchup is set on the west side at Valley Vista High School where the Angels White will square off against Angels Gray in a non league contest.
